Too early to remove masks: Experts cautious after states relax COVID norms

Along with easing the COVID norms, the Maharashtra government made wearing of masks mandatory in public places. It comes after the Centre, earlier this week, directed states to ease coronavirus restrictions due to the fact that daily infections have dropped significantly. Similarly, the Delhi government has also announced that no fine will be imposed from people for not wearing masks from now on. However, cautioning against the measure, health experts have said that masks play an important role in reducing the transmission of the disease.

Now is not the time to do away with precautions completely

Dr Priya Abraham, Director, ICMR-National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV) said ANI She must continue to wear the maskEspecially in crowded or poorly ventilated places.

“I don’t think it’s time to do away with precautions completely. I personally believe that in any crowded place where we are sitting close enough to each other or in a poorly ventilated place, we should wear masks. Must be worn. A mask certainly has a role in reducing transmission,” he said.

Dr. Abraham said, “Most of the time when children pick up the infection, it is mild or asymptomatic. But when a child with the infection comes home and if there is a sick or sick, older person, they can transmit the infection, Dr Abraham said.

There is no need to continue wearing masks as mandated, but…

Reacting to the development, renowned virologist T Jacob John said that since the pandemic is “over” in India, there is no need for the use of masks to reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission. The mask mandate has passed its time and there is no justification for continuing it as a “mandate”.

But it is a good idea to promote voluntarily wearing masks in public places to reduce dust and other respiratory transmitted agents, including TB bacilli, flu virus, other respiratory viruses such as syncytial virus, adenovirus, common cold. Viruses etc. are included. ,

John, former director of the Indian Council for Medical Research Center of Advanced Research, said, “It is a habit that will reduce diseases. Currently, we see kidney transplant patients wearing masks; everyone will benefit – buses, trains, Hawaii. in ships etc.” in Virology, told PTI.

“My personal opinion is that there should be an active promotion of wearing masks in all hospital premises, outpatient clinics and in all queues and waiting areas. There I am not even opposed to a mandate. For staff and patients, relatives, visitors etc. , ” said John.
