Former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had resigned from the primary membership of the party, in his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi criticized the “Kotari” running the Congress party. He accused Rahul Gandhi of destroying the party’s already existing “consultancy mechanism”.
In the letter, he said that all senior and experienced leaders of the party were sidelined and a new circle of inexperienced sycophants started running the affairs of the party. Azad also said that important decisions were being taken by Rahul Gandhi, or worse, his security guard and PA, according to Hindustan Times,
Ghulam Nabi Azad also called Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi a “nominal person”.
Here, the reference to the security guards can be seen as a scathing attack on KB Byju. Earlier KB Byju used to be in the Special Protection Group, but later joined Rahul Gandhi’s team after becoming the general secretary of the party. However, he is yet to receive a formal designation.
Byju’s has grown in stature, from being in charge and managing Rahul Gandhi’s security to handling his key tasks like the Goa election, and now, a key figure for the Bharat Jodi Yatra. He is the person who manages all the visits of Rahul Gandhi. He was also Rahul Gandhi’s personal messenger to Captain Amarinder Singh before the political turmoil in Punjab. Hindustan Times,
Apart from KB Byju, the most prominent member of Team Rahul is KC Venugopal, General Secretary of the Organization (GSO), whom Azad does not name directly. In 2017, he was promoted to general secretary in charge of Karnataka, and in 2019, he assumed his current role.
Other general secretaries who are part of Gandhi’s team are Randeep Surjewala and Ajay Maken.
His mention of the PA is also directed at members of Rahul Gandhi’s personal staff, including former ICICI Bank executive Alankar Sawai, who heads the research team, and briefly handles Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account.
The list also includes Oxford-educated Kaushal Vidyarthi, who is Rahul Gandhi’s official secretary, who handles his day-to-day operations, and Sachin Rao, who was part of the individual team but now handles training and publishing messages.
Azad said the Congress has lost the will and ability under the leadership of the congregation to fight for what is right for India.
After reading this letter, Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said that he suspected that Ghulam Nabi Azad’s resignation letter was written and claimed by him or someone else in some other party. He also pulled up Azad over his resignation letter and said that if the latter had issues, he could have raised them instead of being a mute spectator.
Azad’s resignation comes days after he resigned hours after his appointment as the chairman of the campaign committee and political affairs committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress.
Azad likely to form new political party
After resigning from the Congress party, Azad has indicated in his five-page resignation letter to form a new political party. In his resignation letter indicating his next political move, Ghulam Nabi Azad has said, “Some of my other colleagues and I will now be determined to uphold the ideals to which we have devoted our entire adult lives outside the Indian National Congress. has done.”
GM Saroori, Haji Abdul Rashid, Mohd Amin Bhat, Gulzar Ahmed Wani and Chaudhry Mohd Akram have also resigned from the primary membership of the Congress “in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad”. The development came hours after Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from the party.
