US supermodel Bella Hadid has stepped from the catwalk into the metaverse with the launch of CY-B3LLA – a collection of non-fungal tokens featuring artwork based on 3-D scans of her face and body.
Hadid, 25, told Reuters in an interview from New York that she was fascinated by the shared virtual world environment and wanted to create a “cooler version” of herself after becoming obsessed with video games during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Earlier, she said on her Instagram account that she created NFT to “encourage travel, community, development, fantasy and human interaction”.
An NFT is a digital asset that exists on a blockchain, a record of transactions held on networked computers. All types of digital goods, including images, videos, music and text, can be bought and sold as NFTs.
“It was so much fun,” Hadid said of the process, adding that the end result is actually her “accurate facial expressions.”
Their collection includes 11,111 NFTs and was created in collaboration with the NFT minting platform Rebase.
The inspiration for the CY-B3LLA NFTs came from 10 different countries with input from local artists.
“It was really interesting to see what kind of version of me was fabricated in his mind… There are so many different versions of me that you can make up and not the ones I could ever dream of.” ,” He said.
The locations and accompanying digital assets are set to be revealed between now and September, with the first batch featuring Japan-inspired robot-style images of Hadid.
Each NFT also acts as a passport to a global community, unlocking rewards and giving holders access to the real events Hadid participated in.
The date when these NFTs can be closed has not been announced yet, but interested buyers can register online.
“It’s really exciting to see people really want to get involved,” Hadid said.
“Every time I put something on, it feels like a birthday party, like there’s no one going to show up. And so it’s really cool to see … people really … tuning in and figuring it out.”
