Total dose of Kovid vaccine in India crosses 190 crores: Center

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India crossed 190 crore.

The Union Health Ministry today said that the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 190 crore.

So far more than 3.01 crore (3,01,97,120) children in the age group of 12-14 have been given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to health ministry data, 9,95,265 preventive doses have been administered to people in the age group of 18-59 years so far.

On 10 April, India began giving precautionary doses of COVID-19 vaccines to people over the age of 18 at private immunization centres.

All people over the age of 18 who have completed nine months of taking the second dose are eligible for a precautionary dose.

The nationwide COVID vaccination campaign was launched on January 16 last year, in which health workers were vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2, 2021.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began on March 1, 2021 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

The country started the vaccination campaign for all people above the age of 45 years from April 1 last year. The government then decided to expand the campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated against the viral disease from May 1 last year.

The next phase of vaccination began on January 3 for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years.

India began giving preventive doses of vaccines to health care and frontline workers and people aged 60 years and above from January 10.

The country then began immunizing children aged 12-14 years from March 16 and also removed the co-morbidity clause, making everyone over the age of 60 eligible for a precautionary dose of COVID vaccines.
