Toyota has confirmed that the new GR Supra will be available with a manual gearbox, with the model expected to debut in the coming months
The Toyota GR Supra will soon get the long-awaited manual gearbox option. Toyota’s iconic sportscar in its latest generation was only made available with automatic gearboxes for both the 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. Now 3 years after its debut, the carmaker has confirmed that a manual gearbox variant is on the way.
Previewed in a pair of teasers, Toyota showcased the rear of the current-gen Supra with the vehicle name in red and the three-pedal layout for the new manual Supra. Toyota confirmed that the red Supra badge would indicate the car to be manual. Toyota has stated that the manual gearbox has been “designed to provide an unparalleled dynamic experience while meeting the demand of driving purists” and has been developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing based on customer and fan feedback. This could mean that the manual gearbox will be a Supra exclusive with its sister car BMW Z4 likely to remain as an automatic only.
The new gearbox option should further enhance the appeal of the GR Supra among buyers who wish to have a more encompassing driving experience that comes with a manual gearbox.

If reports are to be believed, the new manual gearbox will be made available with the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine only for the 2023 model year sportscar. Additionally, the Japanese domestic market is also expected to get a special matte white variant for the car with a unique paint finish, tan leather upholstery and some additional kits.
