The Toyota Rumion is a cross-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

After the dub of Maruti Suzuki Toyota Called the Glanza and Vitara Brezza urban cruisers, Toyota is all set to give the Ertiga the cross-badge treatment. The new Toyota Rumion has been unveiled in South Africa and is essentially a re-badged version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Obviously, it looks similar to the Ertiga thanks to cosmetic updates like the new grille and Toyota badging. Now this is not the first time Toyota has used the Rumian name, in fact, one of Toyota’s rebadged Suzuki models has used the same badge in the past.

Surprisingly, Toyota has revealed the Rumian in South Africa before our market which could be a strategic move as the Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the Ciaz- the rebadged version of the Toyota Belta in India soon. . The new Toyota Belta is expected to go on sale in India by the end of this year, which will replace the Toyota Yaris compact sedan in India. The second generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was launched in India in 2018 and is scheduled to facelift next year. Toyota is likely to launch the facelifted version of the Ertiga based Rumion in India in 2022.

The cabin design of the Toyota Rumion is also similar and has similar features.

Even the Toyota Rumion will be a seven-seater like the Ertiga and will be similar in terms of layout and creature comforts. So expect features like a 7.0-inch SmartPlay 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, cruise control, second-row air-con vents, cooled cup holders and steering mounted controls.

The Toyota Rumion will also be offered as a seven-seater like the Ertiga.

As far as the mechanics are concerned, the model is again expected to be identical. Under the hood, there will be the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, mild-hybrid petrol powertrain that powers a wide range of Maruti Suzuki models. The engine is tuned to belt out 103 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque, while comes with the option of a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

The Toyota Rumion also shares the 1.5-litre petrol engine with the Ertiga and gets the same gearbox options.

When launched in India, apart from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki XL6, the Toyota Rumion will also rival the likes of Renault Triber and Mahindra Marazzo. While in South African and other Asian markets, it will also go up against the recently introduced Honda BR-V.
