Real Madrid has announced the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool on a contract that will keep the Englishman at the Santiago Bernabeu from 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2031.

The 26-year-old England international’s contract at Anfield was drawing to an end but Madrid paid a fee to bring him in earlier so he can play in the Club World Cup.

“Liverpool will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1,” Liverpool said in a statement, confirming his departure.

The 26-year-old England international joins Real Madrid after winning nine titles with Liverpool: one Champions League, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, and one FA Community Shield.

Alexander-Arnold, who has spent his entire football career at Liverpool, has been a full England international since 2018, representing his country in two World Cups (2018 and 2022) and one European Championship (2024).

He has received numerous individual accolades, including being named in the FIFA FIFPro World 11 once (2020), the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season twice (2018/19 and 2021/22), and the Premier League Team of the Year three times (2018/19, 2019/20, and 2021/22). He also received the Premier League Young Player of the Season award in 2019/20.

Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid for the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from 14 June.

Alexander-Arnold, who came through the Merseyside club’s academy, went on to represent the Reds in 259 outings, netting 18 times for Liverpool. His ability to play accurate long passes from the right flank came to note and managers Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot ensured to make the most of the Englishman’s eye for picking out run forward and pinging the ball to the feet of the attacker with precision.

The English full-back will join Real Madrid, who went trophyless in the year 2024/25 and were overshadowed by rivals Barcelona, who clinched a domestic treble. Madrid will also have a change in the technical area as former coach Carlo Ancelotti left the Spanish Capital city club to take on the reins at the Brazilian national side, and will be replaced by Xabi Alonso.
