Travel restrictions for CID officers

In order to ensure the safety of police personnel, the Director General of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has brought in new rules to restrict its officers from traveling during night time while on duty.

The decision was taken in the light of the recent accident in which three persons – a PSI, a constable attached to Shivajinagar station, and the driver of the cab they were traveling in – died and were chasing an accused in the NDPS. Two people were injured. case in Andhra Pradesh

As per the new rules, officers of all CID units have been prohibited from traveling between 10 pm and 6 am while on official duty. The unit heads have been instructed to implement the order.

According to National Crime Records Bureau data, 427 policemen were killed and an equal number injured in road accidents while on official duty across the country since 2021, a police official said.
