Tribal injured in TS Police firing in Vizag Agency

A tribal man was injured in alleged self-defense firing by a 10-member team of Telangana’s Nalgonda police. Police reportedly reacted when a large number of villagers tried to attack a ‘ganja smuggler’ near Lambasingi in Visakhapatnam agency area on Sunday to save them.

According to the police, Nalgonda police had recently busted a case of ganja and arrested some of the accused. In the course of investigation, he came to the district on Friday. They were on their way to Annavaram village when a group of locals tried to attack them with knives and axes.

“When the villagers attacked them, the Nalgonda police had to fire around two rounds in self-defense and to scare the locals. One bullet hit and hit a villager,” said Superintendent of Police B Krishna Rao.

The injured were immediately admitted to the Narsipatnam area hospital and provided treatment. He is said to be out of danger.

‘not noticed’

Meanwhile, sources in Visakhapatnam police said that Telangana personnel did not give prior information about their arrival or their attempt to nab the accused in the agency. A local police officer said that if he had done so, the local police would have warned him about the possibility of such incidents in the interior tribal areas.
