Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament (MP) Sudip Banerjee is under a scathing attack from his party’s five-time MLA Tapas Roy.
Roy, who is an old-timer in the TMC, hails from North Kolkata, which is also Banerjee’s region. While the two never had good terms, Roy has now openly started attacking Banerjee.
Speaking to News18, Roy said, “Look, he is the one who constantly says bad things about our leader. Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. He left the party once and contested as an independent candidate. He did not stay in the party for six years. Now, he is trying to oust the superiors. He is facing corruption charges. I got nothing to lose.”
Sources say Roy was made the North Kolkata party president last year, but was later dropped to make room for Banerjee. When Banerjee went to meet her old-time follower, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) North Kolkata president Tamoghano Ghosh, who was earlier with the TMC, for Durga Puja, Roy attacked her.
On Thursday, when Banerjee went to Mamata Banerjee’s Bijoy convention, Roy said, “I don’t need to meet small BJP leaders. In Parliament, PM Modi’s seats in front of me, Hathi Chale Bazar, Kutte Bhauke thousand.
Interestingly, TMC general secretary Kunal Ghosh visited Roy’s residence with a message from the party.
Banerjee was seen at Mamata’s program, but Roy was missing.
Roy later said: “We are not the white elephants of the party. We are the Doberman dogs of the party. I am not tarnished, I am ready to face all the consequences.”
Undoubtedly, the party is embarrassed by this internal squabble. Sources say that the party will alert both the parties.
