Trinbago Knight Riders registered a 27-run win against St Lucia Kings on Tuesday to move up to second place in CPL 2021. The Kings won the toss and opted to field, and had complete control of the game for the first half of the innings. . But late bounce from Kieron Pollard and Tim Seifert changed the color of the game and helped the team reach 158 in their 20 overs.
The pair, along with Kieron Pollard, added 78 runs from 44 balls to help them post a competitive total.
Like TKR’s innings, the Kings struggled to find any momentum in the first half of their reply between some exceptional and conventional bowling from Sunil Narine and Akil Hossein, leaving them with an unlikely 82 off 36 balls.
Come the chase, Andre Fletcher played a good lone hand for the Kings, but the Trinbago bowlers didn’t deliver much and the other batsmen struggled to get going. Team captain Faf du Plessis could only manage 14 runs in 24 balls, which put pressure on other batsmen as well. It was Fletcher’s 81 off 55 balls that somehow helped him reach 130 in the end.
Despite his efforts, three wickets from the tournament’s top wicket-taker Ravi Rampaul ensured that no one would be able to keep up with him to chase down the TKR total. Sri Lanka’s Isuru Uduana also made a comeback with two wickets as the Kings were completely out in the match. Aqeel Hossein and Sunil Narine also charmed badly.
As far as bowling for the Kings is concerned, Kesrick Williams impressed with his 4/24 but his efforts went in vain.
