Tripura elections: People showed ‘red card’ to Left Front, says PM Modi

The Prime Minister said that there is no such family in Tripura which has not benefited from the policies of the BJP. Narendra Modi On Monday, the pollster urged the people of the state to vote for the saffron party if they want “a guarantee of development, peace and prosperity”.

Addressing a rally at Agartala’s Vivekananda Maidan, Modi said that as a ‘faithful servant’ (servant), the BJP has left no stone unturned to develop the place.

Urging the people to remain united and vote peacefully, he said Tripura was developing rapidly and it would suffer if the Left and the Congress returned to power.

“Agartala has become the gateway of international trade in the Northeast; State capital will soon become a business hub. If the BJP stays in power, the money sent from Delhi will reach the grassroots level, unlike what was under the previous system.”

He asserted that the BJP believes in politics of change (Badalav), not revenge.

Listing out the development projects, he said the state has witnessed a modern airport and several other infrastructure projects in the last five years.

“The construction of national highways, roads and railway projects is going on at a rapid pace. The Indo-Bangladesh railway will be operational soon, and the Maitri Setu at Sabroom, which is connected to the international port of Chittagong, will give a big boost to trade and business once it becomes operational.”

Launching a scathing attack on the Left Front and the Congress, the Prime Minister accused both the parties of filling their coffers without caring for the welfare of the people.

“The Left parties had taken the state to the brink of destruction, from state departments to police stations, cadre raj was visible everywhere. The people of Tripura can never forget those chaotic days when Left Front activists held every aspect of life hostage.”

Tripura saw development when its people showed a “red card” to the communists, he said. “The Left had treated themselves as kings and slaves of the people of Tripura,” he said.

The Prime Minister, on his second visit to the state in two days, claimed that the Left parties and the Congress would do anything to satiate their hunger for power.

“They wrestle in Kerala and have friendly relations in Tripura. Will those Congress leaders and workers who have suffered ‘red terror’ forgive the understanding of the Left-Congress? It is clear that some leaders of the Left and the Congress do not hesitate to join hands with the enemies.

The Prime Minister had accused the two parties of fighting “kushti” (wrestling) in Kerala and “dosti” (friendship) in Tripura. In an apparent reference to Tipra Motha, Modi said some other parties were also helping the opposition alliance from behind, but any vote for them would take Tripura several years back. “The old players of misrule have joined hands for ‘chanda’ (donation). Those who fight ‘kushti’ in Kerala have made ‘friendship’ in Tripura.

Meanwhile, under BJP rule in Tripura, people got free ration, piped water, health aid, houses, university and other facilities, Modi said.

Listing the initiatives taken by his government, Modi said three lakh houses have been sanctioned for Tripura under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’. He said that the BJP government has spent more than Rs 500 crore for the welfare of farmers in the northeastern state.

The PM said, ‘I want to assure all those people who have not yet got a pucca house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, they will get a pucca house after the BJP government takes oath in the state.’

Modi said that people have already made up their mind to vote in favor of a double engine government.

“My happiness doubled to see the promise of support for the double engine government,” he said.

The campaigning of the parties will come to an end on Tuesday. Elections to the 60-member assembly in Tripura will be held on February 16. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.
