It’s 2017 when TVS Motor Company rolled out ntork The 125 which made waves in the 125cc scooter segment due to Bluetooth connectivity, good design and an engine that looks sportier than most scooters. Turns out NTorq has become even more popular now thanks to the same reasons, plus a few more things it now boasts. We recently tested the Race Edition and have a thing or two to say about it.
India has been a two wheeler country and the majority of this two wheeler population is made up of 110-125cc commuter motorcycles, the reason being that they are very fuel-efficient. While the likes of Honda Activa have been doing great for decades, it has only been a few years that the scooter kind has started to attract attention as the products become more attractive and fun. NTorq is one of them that has given rise to this growing popularity.
The NTorq 125 had a design from its inception that stood out while remaining subtle. But with the Race Edition, the scooter now demands attention. The race dress is louder and shorter than the standard version and definitely gives it a sportier look. The fit and finish is as satisfactory as they have been in its previous versions as well.
One of the updates to the new NTorq 125 is voice assistance And the system actually gets a separate button on the right (like a car) for this. It can be paired with smartphone and earphone. The system would be useful for people who need to be connected the whole time, but for someone old-school like me who doesn’t pay attention to my phone at all while riding, it probably won’t be of much use.
But what the old-fashioned writer loves on this scooter is how to drive it. Firstly, the NTorq 125 is by far the best looking scooter in its segment and beyond. And speaking as an older kid, a good sound exhaust adds more fun to the ride, but only because the NTorq feels very lively on the throttle and is capable of speeds in excess of 100km/h. Even when it is doing 80 km/h, it is engaged very comfortably and it does wonders if it is kept at speed even for some time.
TVS has too many USPs to list for the NTorq and handling should be one of them. A suspension setup that’s not too soft, not too firm, round tires, and brakes that provide a nice bite – these are the elements that make the ride on the NTorq sporty and allow for quick maneuvers through city traffic. filtering and hence making it an ideal daily traveller.
The shape and dimensions of the scooter improve how comfortable it is for riders who are not very tall. It’s lightweight, very easy to pull in and out of parking lots, and has a low seat height. The great thing about this scooter is that it is fun for someone who has experience with two wheels and easy for someone who is new to it.
It lifts just two thumbs up for convenience features that include an external fuel filler, and plenty of space under the seat with a light and usb Simultaneously charging. About the instrument cluster, it is full of information – one can say a lot about it. While features like turn-by-turn navigation and phone notification alerts can be helpful, features like lap timers are only fun the first couple of times.
What really makes the NTorq a good choice is an engine and overall ergonomics. While one can learn to ride a scooter on the NTorq, another enthusiast can enjoy the ride as the suspension and brakes can take it. Considering that a lot of Race Edition NTorq 125s are already being frequented on city roads, it is safe to say that TVS might not have to struggle to pull it off.
