Twitter allows users to tip influencers with bitcoin

Twitter Inc. will allow people to tip their favorite content creators with bitcoin and launch a fund to pay certain users who host audio chat rooms on its Spaces feature, the company said Thursday.

The San Francisco-based company said it will be testing new ways to help give users a safer experience on Twitter, such as alerting when people are entering “hot” conversations or letting them leave a tweet thread.

The product announcements are part of Twitter’s effort for popular content creators to compete with rival platforms such as Facebook and Alphabet Inc.’s YouTube, and to change its image as a site where polarized discussions can intensify.

Twitter users globally on iOS devices can now send and receive digital payments, previously limited to a small group of testers.

“We believe we can continue to encourage the types of conversations that people want to see,” Esther Crawford, product lead for creator monetization at Twitter, told reporters at a briefing.

Twitter said it plans to support authentication NFT, or non-fungible tokens, which are digital assets such as images or videos present on a blockchain.

The company said that the feature will let people track and display their NFT ownership on Twitter.

In an effort to grow Space, Twitter will launch a Creators Fund to provide financial, technical and marketing support to users who host recurring audio programming on Space.

Such support would allow more empty space To better conduct negotiations and potentially secure brand sponsorship deals, said host, André Jean-Pierre, who acted as an early beta-tester for Spaces.

Twitter said it is exploring how to allow users to filter out certain words they don’t want to see in replies to their tweets, which can be used to prevent name-calling or abusive speech. .
