Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal, during an all-round meeting on April 14, sought to reassure employees that The company was “not being held hostage” from the news of Elon Musk offer to buy the company, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
As Mr. Agarwal questioned employees posted on the company’s Slack messaging service, he encouraged employees to stay focused and told them that “we as employees control what happens”, said the source, who did not wish to be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
The meeting took place after the news came that Tesla CEO offered to buy social media company for $43 billion.
Mr. Agarwal told employees that the board was constantly reviewing Mr. Musk’s proposal, but he was limited in sharing it with employees.
In one segment of the question-and-answer session, an employee asked how the company reached the decision to give Musk a board seat.
“Will we start inviting any and all billionaires on board?” According to a part of the meeting heard by Reuters,
Mr. Agarwal replied that the board was working best interest of shareholders,
“I have a strong view that the voice of those who criticize our service is something we should emphasize so that we can learn and get better,” he said.
