‘Twitter deal can’t go ahead until…’: Elon Musk
Tech billionaire Elon Musk said Tuesday that a $44 billion deal to buy Twitter cannot proceed unless the company shows that less than 5 percent of accounts on the platform are fake or spam.
“20 percent of fake/spam accounts, while Twitter’s claims may be 4 times higher. My proposal was based on the accuracy of Twitter’s SEC filings,” Musk said in a tweet on Tuesday.
“Yesterday, the CEO of Twitter declined to publicly show proof of 5 percent. The deal can’t move forward until he does,” he said.
Musk spent much of the past day with Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal, who posted a series of tweets explaining his company’s efforts to fight bots and consistently estimating that less than 5 percent of Twitter accounts are fake. . ,
At the Miami technology conference on Monday, Musk estimated that at least 20 percent of Twitter’s 229 million accounts are spam bots, a percentage he said was on the low end of his assessment. Also at the All-In Summit 2022, Musk gave the strongest signal yet that he would like to pay less for Twitter than the $44 billion offer he made last month.
“You can’t pay the price for something that’s worse than what they claim,” he said.
