Twitter will revise its user verification process, Elon Musk said in a tweet on Sunday, just days after taking over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.
“The entire verification process is currently being improved,” Musk said in his tweet.
The technology newspaper platformer reported on Sunday, citing two people familiar with the matter, that Twitter is considering charging a fee for the iconic blue check mark that confirms the identity of its account holder.
According to the report, if the project goes ahead, users will have to subscribe to Twitter Blue for $4.99 per month or lose their “Verified” badge.
The Tesla Inc CEO hasn’t made a final decision and the project is yet to be scrapped but according to the platformer it is likely that the verification will become part of Twitter Blue.
Twitter Blue was launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service, offering “exclusive access to premium features” on a monthly subscription basis, including the ability to edit tweets.
The feature to edit tweets was also made available earlier this month after Musk urged him to use a Twitter poll in April asking millions of his followers if they wanted an edit button. More than 70% had said yes.
The billionaire has also requested that users who logged out of Twitter’s site be redirected to the Explore page, which shows trending tweets, The Verge reported on Sunday, citing employees familiar with the matter.
