Twitter’s chief of security, Peter Zatko, filed a complaint last month with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department until his removal earlier this year.

The Post that received the complaint reported that one of the most serious allegations is that Twitter violated the terms of a 2010 FTC agreement by falsely claiming it had a robust security plan.

Zatko accused the company of deceit in dealing with “spam” or fake accounts, an allegation that lies at the core of billionaire Elon Musk’s attempt to back a $44 billion takeover bid for Twitter.

Zatko did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday, but told the Post that he felt “morally obliged” to come forward.

Twitter said in a prepared statement Tuesday that Zatko was fired for “ineffective leadership and poor performance” and that “accusations and opportunistic timing designed to draw attention to and harm Twitter, its customers and its shareholders.” was.”

“What we have seen so far is a false narrative about Twitter and our privacy and data protection practices that is riddled with inconsistencies and inaccuracies and lacks critical context,” the company said.

A spokeswoman for the US Senate Intelligence Committee, Rachel Cohen, said the committee had received the complaint and “is in the process of setting up a meeting to discuss the allegations in more detail. We take this matter seriously.”
