Two persons, including a former employee of a telecom company, have been arrested for allegedly stealing parts of a mobile tower installed at a house in North Delhi’s Aruna Nagar.
DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that both the accused have been identified as 23-year-old Deepak and 22-year-old Dhanpal. Both are residents of Sant Nagar in Burari.
Police said that on June 14, a case of baseband theft from the mobile tower was registered at the Civil Lines police station. On the basis of CCTV footage and tip-off, the police arrested both the accused on Thursday.
According to the police, Deepak was employed in a telecom firm in 2017 where his job was to repair mobile towers. He had lost his job three months ago after an accident. Deepak’s father was not able to work as he too had an accident sometime back. So, to overcome his financial difficulties, Deepak planned to steal the plates from the mobile towers as he knew about the shops that bought the stolen plates.
After this Deepak and Dhanpal made a plan. Police said they would track down houses with mobile towers and try to reach the towers by misguiding landlords on necessary repairs and maintenance.
Police said the two were involved in nine other cases, which were carried out in a similar manner.
