Two new Royal Bengal cubs were born on Thursday at the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati.

A Royal Bengal tigress named “Kazi” gave birth to two cubs last week. With these cubs, the Bengal tiger population in the zoo has gone up to nine.

Kazi had earlier given birth to two cubs named Sultan and Suresh in August 2020. The cubs are healthy.

Assam State Zoo’s Divisional Forest Officer Dr Ashwini Kumar said that while the mother and the cubs are in good health, the zoo keeper is taking all precautionary measures to protect them from the severe cold by installing heaters outside the cage and adequate dry straw. enclosures.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Amit Sahai said that the mother is being taken care of with nutritious food. “About 6-7 kg of meat along with other veterinary prescribed food is being provided to the mother,” he said.

Mr. Sahai said that the focus is on providing clean environment to the animals in the zoo. “Attention is being paid to cleanliness in and around the enclosure so that the mother and her cubs do not get any disease,” he said.

Mr. Sahai was hopeful that the zoo would now be able to attract more visitors as new inmates arrived.

Meanwhile, forest officials have requested Environment and Forest Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya to come up with the names of the newborn cubs. Shri Shuklabaidya has in the past named many animals that have become popular.
