Two Nagaland villages adopt anti-bribery resolution ahead of elections

The resolution also aims at “clean elections”. (agent)

Kohima, Nagaland:

In a move to promote free and fair elections, two villages in Nagaland – Nihokhu village under Niuland district and Thizma village under Kohima district – have passed a resolution not to accept bribes for votes in the upcoming state assembly elections.

The assembly elections are to be held on February 27, 2023.

Chief Electoral Officer, V said, “The Sankalp unanimously resolved to ban all kinds of candidate-setting party camps in the jurisdiction of the village as well as drinking alcohol. The Sankalp resolved to maintain a clean election in the village. Also resolved.” Shashank Shekhar.

Mr Shekhar, IAS, was speaking about the state’s preparedness for the upcoming elections in Kohima on Thursday.

The Election Commission of India had earlier announced the resolution passed by Nihokhu village during its press conference held in the state capital.

V Shashank Shekhar said that the state of Nagaland is all set to conduct free and fair elections.

He said that he has sensitized the district machinery and enforcement through training and video conferencing. He also informed that a total of 305 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will reach the state for smooth functioning during the elections, out of which 75 CRPF companies have already arrived.

Stating that his team is fully prepared, he hoped that the people would hold a free and fair election in the spirit of a true democracy where there would be no violence.
