West Bengal Police has arrested two suspected members of al Qaeda In the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) from North 24 Parganas district, a senior official said.
Acting on a tip-off, the officers of the Special Task Force of the state police raided Kharibari area of the Goverment police station area on the night of August 17 and arrested both of them for their alleged involvement with the terrorist organization, he said.

One of them has been identified as a resident of Gangarampur in South Dinajpur district, while the other has been identified as a resident of Arambagh in Hooghly, the senior police officer said, adding that many were recovered from their possession during the raids. The documents were confiscated.
“Both have been arrested for their involvement in AQIS. Documents with highly radical views, indications of waging war against India, have been confiscated from their possession. A special case is being initiated against them,” he said. “
He said that after interrogating the two, the police came to know that at least 17 other members of AQIS are active in the area.
The two arrested will be produced in a local court today, the official said.
