Motorcycle sales rose 5% to 143,523 units last month from 137,259 units sold in February 2021

TVS Motor Company reported its sales for February 2022 and the company’s total sales (including two wheelers and three wheelers) stood at 281,714 units, registering a decline of 5.69 per cent as against 297,747 units sold in February 2021. The company’s total two-wheeler sales stood at 267,625 units in February 2022 as against 284,581 units during the same period last year, showing a decline of 6 per cent year-on-year volume. During this, TVS’ Domestic two-wheeler sales declined by 11 per cent to 173,198 units in February 2022 as compared to 195,145 units in February 2021.

TVS says semiconductor shortage has hit sales of its premium motorcycles

TVS further reported that motorcycle sales grew 5 percent to 143,523 units last month as against 137,259 units in the same month last year. They were also a major contributor as compared to scooters with 86,616 units sold last month. However, the scooter sales declined by 10.29 per cent as compared to 95,525 units sold in February last year. The manufacturer said the shortfall in supply of semiconductors impacted production and sales of premium two-wheelers in its portfolio. TVS, however, said it is hopeful of an improvement in supplies in the coming months.

With regard to exports, TVS shipped 107,574 units last month, registering a year-on-year growth of 6 per cent, as compared to 101,789 units exported in February 2021. Two-wheeler exports improved by 6 per cent in February 2022 to 94,427 units. , from 89,436 units during the same period last year. Lastly, three-wheeler sales rose 7 per cent to 14,089 units last month from 13,166 units a year ago. The recovery in sales emerges as a sign of recovery as the three-wheeler sector is the worst hit during the pandemic.
