Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reported its wholesale sales for May 2022 and the company sold a total of 353,188 units (domestic + exports) last month. This number was significantly higher as compared to May 2021 when the company sold 58,168 two-wheelers. However, note that a direct year-on-year comparison would be unfair given the nationwide lockdown caused by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic during this period last year. With regard to month-on-month sales, Honda 2Wheelers India registered a marginal decline of two per cent as compared to 361,027 units sold in April 2022.

HMSI’s domestic sales last month stood at 320,844 units as against 38,763 two-wheelers in May 2021. Meanwhile, exports stood at 32,344 units, while exports at 19,405 units registered a year-on-year growth of around 67 per cent. Two-wheeler sales are yet to achieve par with pre-pandemic levels with the manufacturer selling a total of 459,897 units in May 2019.
Honda sees a marginal decline of 2 per cent in monthly sales
Commenting on the sales performance, Atsushi Ogata, President and CEO, HMSI, said, “The market is regaining strength as supply side disturbances are reduced and physical presence in office and educational institutions is increasing. The sales figures this month are comparable to May 2021 as the continuous lockdown in the wake of the second wave impacted the performance during this period last year. Growth in domestic as well as international trade continues to complement each other as we It is in the early stages of monsoon.”
