The ongoing tussle between Shiv Sena and BJP prompted Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to skip the event in Mumbai where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award. Thackeray and his family members met 80-year-old Chandrabhaga Shinde, who became the face of a protest by Shiv Sena workers against Independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana, at her residence in Parel a day earlier in the evening. Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Jitendra Awhad tweeted the invitation letter for the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar award ceremony which did not name Uddhav Thackeray.
Awhad tweeted, “Mangeshkar family refrained from mentioning Chief Minister’s name on invitation letter for Lata Mangeshkar award ceremony. His role is incomprehensible. This act of Mangeshkar family is an insult to 12 crore Marathi people.” Shinde, a staunch Shiv Sainik, fought the heat and humidity outside the Thackeray family’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in suburban Bandra on Saturday. He and hundreds of Shiv Sainiks strongly opposed the plan of MP Navneet Rana and MLA Ravi Rana to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree. Shinde not only raised slogans at the top of his voice during the protest but also showed the famous ‘don’t mess with me’ action in defiance in the recent multilingual film blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rise’.
Thackeray, his wife Rashmi and sons Aditya and Tejas reached Shinde’s one-room house in the Crescent Bay building in Shiv Sena stronghold Parel in the evening and spoke to him. Shiv Sena office-bearers said that minister Aaditya Thackeray spoke on phone after pictures and videos of Shinde during the protests on Friday and Saturday went viral on social media, while the CM had invited him inside ‘Matoshree’. He said that during his visit on Sunday, the Chief Minister once again invited Shinde to his residence in Bandra or at the official residence ‘Varsha’ in Malabar Hill area of Mumbai. At a function held at Mumbai’s Shanmukhanand Hall on Sunday evening, PM Modi was honored with the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, instituted after the late singing legend. Shiv Sena leader and state Industries Minister Subhash Desai attended the ceremony.
