Udupi: The Public Instruction Department in Udupi have directed schools to start in the district classes on campus For class IX and X Half a day, since Wednesday. Udupi Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) NH Nagoor has directed all block education officers to start classes as per the new guidelines. Nagoor told TOI that schools have been asked to conduct physical classes only in the morning for half the day.
“The government has allowed districts with less than 2% test positivity rate to start classes for classes IX and X. The positivity rate in Udupi is less than 2%, and hence, all government, aided and private schools can start from half a day. Campus classes for class IX and X following SOPs. All students must mandatorily bring consent letter from parents to attend classes on campus. Parents should also confirm in the letter that their children do not have symptoms of COVID-19.
Students have to bring drinking water and snacks from their homes. However, schools have also been asked to provide hot water for the students.
“Though classes will start from Wednesday, physical presence will not be mandatory for students. They can continue to attend online classes and other alternative methods. Schools have been asked to keep the classrooms neat and tidy as per the government SOPs. Students should maintain social distancing in classrooms and school premises. Heads of institutions should hold parent meetings through School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMCs) to implement safety measures,” Nagur said.
He said that in Udupi, there are 106 government high schools, 70 aided schools and 116 private institutions, which are expected to start classes on campus for classes IX and X.
