City took a two-goal lead three times at the Etihad, but Real retaliated by coming from behind in the previous rounds against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola’s men let the 13-time European champions off the hook after losing successive chances, but captain Fernandinho sees no reason to change approach.
The 36-year-old said, “We are going to try to win the game there. We will try to play because we are still playing.
“We will try to keep the ball as much as we can, try to create chances, try to hurt them as much as we can and obviously be a little smarter, defend better and not give any chances there.
“They are a dangerous team. They have top players and in the meantime, they can create chances and score goals, so you have to be careful all the time.”
The Brazil international, who came off the bench to play right-back for injured John Stones in the first half, said City were disappointed to have conceded three goals, but a win would give them the confidence to return to the Bernabeu on May 4. . ,
While Real could take the La Liga crown with four matches against Espanyol this weekend, City are now turning their attention to a tight Premier League title duel with Liverpool when they travel to Leeds on Saturday.
Fernandinho added: “It’s the same as always – when we win we celebrate and then focus on the next game in the Premier League. Then on Sunday we will think about Madrid again.”
