UGC launches UG, PG courses on Cyber ​​Security to celebrate Cyber ​​Awareness Day

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday launched courses on cyber security and data protection for undergraduate and postgraduate level students as part of Cyber ​​Jagriti Diwas 2022 celebrations.

The course aims to help students from both technical and non-technical streams develop an understanding of cyber security issues. Courses will be introduced in universities and colleges under elective or elective categories for students of all streams.

Speaking on the occasion, M. Jagadesh Kumar said, “The objective of this course is to create more aware, accountable and responsible digital citizens, thereby contributing effectively to the overall healthy cyber security posture and ecosystem.”

He further added, “For classroom transactions of these courses at UG and PG level, higher” education Institutes (HEIs) may invite experts from Cyber ​​Security / Computer / IT qualified faculty or industry / subject experts to take lectures, practicals and tutorials.

As per the syllabus released by UGC, undergraduate students will study basic and mid level concepts and post graduate students will cover mid and advanced level concepts. Undergraduate courses cover topics including cyber security, cybercrime and law, social media overview, e-commerce, digital payments and security of digital devices, among others.

“After the completion of this module, students will be able to understand the basic security aspects related to computers and mobiles. They will be able to use basic tools and techniques to protect their equipment,” the course document read.

At the postgraduate level, topics that will be covered include cybercrime, cyber law, data privacy and security, cyber security management and compliance and governance.

“After finishing this module, students will have an understanding of the legal framework that exists India For cybercrime including aspects related to personal data privacy and security. They will also get information about the Data Protection Bill, 2019 and data privacy and security issues related to social media platforms.
