UK MoS for South Asia Lord Tariq Ahmed meets former Foreign Secretary Shringla in Delhi

New Delhi [India]May 29 (ANI): UK’s Minister of State for Middle East, South Asia and UN Lord Tariq Ahmed, who is on a 5-day visit to India, met former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla in Delhi on Monday.

Apart from the UK minister, the former foreign secretary also held brief talks with British Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott.

Shringla said on Twitter: “Delighted to meet UK Minister Lord Tariq Ahmadbutt and UK Deputy High Commissioner @CScottFCDO at the FCO.”

UK ministers are on a visit to India from 27-31 May, with a focus on strengthening ties between the two countries in the science, research and innovation sectors.

Earlier today, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with Lord Tariq Ahmed and discussed a range of issues including Free Trade Agreements, Indo-Pacific and G20.

“Met UK MoS Lord @tariqahmadbt in New Delhi today. Discussed a wide range of issues from FTA and South Asia to Indo-Pacific and G20. Underscored the obligation to ensure the security of our diplomatic missions and prevent abuse of democratic freedoms, Jaishankar said in a tweet.

The UK and India are working towards a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The ninth round of talks for a free trade agreement between India and Britain was held from 24 to 28 April.

Lord Tariq Ahmed, who is the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development Affairs (South Asia, MEST, Africa, UN, Human Rights) and the PM’s Special Envoy on Prevention of Sexual Violence, visited India two days back on May 27. After coming to India, he traveled to Jodhpur.
