chalat johnson wahli, a professional painter and mother of the British Prime Minister boris johnson, has died at the age of 79, Wire Newspaper reported.
Johnson Wahl died “suddenly and peacefully” in a London hospital on Monday, the newspaper said, citing a statement from the family.
Downing Street did not respond to a request for comment. Family representatives could not be reached immediately.
Johnson described his mother as the “highest authority” in the family during the Conservative Party’s annual convention in 2019.
“I am going to quote that supreme authority in my family – my mother, and to the curious students of the divisions in my family on EU affairs, I want you to know that I have up my sleeve – My mom voted ‘Quit,'” Johnson said then.
According to the Telegraph, Johnson Wahl was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 40.
“If possible I try to paint every day, although I have to go to the hospital. I still manage to paint, although my hand will suddenly make a movement that is completely unintentional and it almost makes me brings to tears,” she told the newspaper in a 2008 interview.
