Britain on Wednesday recorded another 78,610 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus cases, the highest daily total since the country was hit by the pandemic last year.
The arrival of the Omicron version has seen cases rise sharply, with the daily total surpassing the previous highest figure of 68,053, which came in January as the alpha version’s spread.
