An 18th birthday party ended with an unexpected feud between two friends, in which one received a 14-month sentence. Clarity Kennedy, from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, invited some friends to celebrate her birthday. The morning after the bash, he threw a fit at an empty £80 (Rs. 8000) bottle of vodka he had bought for his birthday. Kennedy accused his friend Laura Creedon of drinking an expensive bottle and demanded reimbursement. When Laura does not comply, Kennedy decides to threaten to extort money from Laura and picks up a kitchen knife. He stopped Laura from leaving the flat and told her that she was holding him hostage until he paid for the bottle of vodka.
Kennedy also hit Laura on the head with a bottle and left Laura with bruises and bumps on her head. After a two-hour struggle, Laura managed to escape, after which she informed law enforcement officers, who captured Kennedy, reports the Daily Mail.
Kennedy was brought to court and sentenced to 14 months of house arrest, suspended for two years, and ordered 60 hours of unpaid work. In the argument, Laura’s prosecutor noted, “Kennedy found an eight-inch kitchen knife and began to wave it to threaten Miss Creedon. He threatened to handcuff her if she informed the police.” And the knife will kill.
The judge of the bench, Judge Peter Cook, said, “If a reasonable adult had done so, the judgment would not have been changed by two years in prison. However, it was the day after your 18th birthday, so we will consider that.” That’s what an adult would get.”
The court observed that what Kennedy had done to his friend Laura was “horrendous.” As a result, Kennedy was sentenced to 14 months for “showing the wickedness” of his actions. In his defense, his lawyer observed that Kennedy was naive and immature and unable to properly manage his emotions.
