Ukraine threatens to boycott Paris 2024 if athletes from Russia, Belarus are allowed participation

Ukraine’s Sports Minister Vadim Gautzit said the condition that Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics was unacceptable for the besieged country.

Ukraine on Thursday threatened to boycott the 2024 Olympics in Paris if Russian and Belarusian athletes are allowed to participate, a move described as “unacceptable” by the country’s sports minister.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said it should “further explore” ways to allow competitors from Russia and Belarus to participate, despite being sidelined from most Olympic Games since Russia’s invasion Is. ukraine last february.

“Such a situation is unacceptable for our country,” Ukrainian Play Minister Vadim Gautzit said on Thursday.

Goutzeit said Kyiv was currently pressuring the IOC and other international organizations to gain support for banning Russians and Belarusians from the Olympics.

“Our position remains unchanged – as long as the war in Ukraine continues, Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be at international competitions,” Gautzeit wrote on Facebook.

“If we are not heard, I do not exclude the possibility that we will boycott the Olympics and refuse to participate.”
