A Ukrainian business tycoon named in Forbes Ukraine’s richest list is back in the country to help those in distress after the Russian invasion,
Vsevolod Kozhemyaka is the CEO of Agrotrade Group, which exports domestic agricultural products to international markets. The group has 17 agricultural enterprises and 9 lifts with a total storage capacity of 570 thousand tonnes, according to its website.
According to a tweet by the editor of Kyiv-based media outlet Zaborona Media, the CEO stayed in his native Kharkiv city and was helping local defenders and rescuers, while most other businessmen in his level left Ukraine just before the Russian invasion .
Meanwhile, fighting broke out on several fronts in Ukraine on Saturday, with intense fighting in the besieged port city of Mariupol, one of the war’s greatest sorrows. The war is now in its fourth week.
Kozhemyaka has been posting his rescue efforts from Kharkiv on the social media platform Instagram.
In city after city around Ukraine, hospitals, schools and buildings have been attacked where people have sought protection. In Mariupol, the Ukrainian military was losing control of the major Azovstal steel plant, which is now damaged and heavily contested, according to comments by an adviser to Ukraine’s interior minister.
The United Nations Office of Rights has confirmed the deaths of 816 civilians. Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office said on Saturday that 112 children had died so far.
The United Nations said more than 3.3 million refugees have fled Ukraine since the Russian invasion, while about 6.5 million are believed to be internally displaced within the country.
