Unemployment rate rises to 7.83% in April: CMIE

According to data from the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate in the country rose from 7.6 per cent in March to 7.83% in April.

Data released on Monday showed that the unemployment rate in urban areas was higher at 9.22% compared to 8.28% in March.

The unemployment rate in rural areas was 7.18 per cent in April, up from 7.29 per cent in the previous month.

The data shows that Haryana had the highest unemployment rate at 34.5%, followed by Rajasthan at 28.8%, Bihar at 21.1% and Jammu and Kashmir at 15.6%.

It is important to note that labor force participation rate and employment rate also increased in April, CMIE Managing Director Mahesh Vyas told PTI.

“It is a good development,” said Mr. Vyas.

He said the employment rate increased from 36.46 per cent to 37.05 per cent in April.
