Union Budget 2022 | Implementation of major river-linking projects

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget presentation on February 1 highlighted the Centre’s commitment to execute major river-linking projects.

Ms Sitharaman highlighted the Ken-Betwa river linking project, which was formally approved by the government last year at a cost of about Rs 46,000 crore.

A provision of ₹4,300 crore was made in the budget for 2021-22 and ₹1,400 crore in 2022-23.

He also mentioned that the draft project report setting out the implementation plans for five other river-linking projects had been finalised. These include Daman Ganga Pinjar, Par Tapi Narmada, Krishna Godavari, Krishna Pennar and Pennar Kaveri. These are projects that have been in the works for a long time.
