Varanasi: The district judge’s court on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Anjuman Intejamiya Masjid.purpose) – Masjid Management Committee – for delay in hearing of Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri case and fixed August 22 as the next date of hearing.
The court is hearing whether it is maintainable or not in Rakhi Singh v State of UP and others.
On August 4, AIM’s panel of lawyers had sought time from the district judge’s court in view of the untimely death of their lawyer Abhay Nath Yadav. District Governance Council (Civil) Mahendra Prasad Pandey said that considering his petition, the court has fixed August 18 as the next date of hearing.
On Thursday, AIM filed an adjournment application seeking 10 days’ time for preparation. According to the DGC (Civil), the district judge expressed displeasure over this and said that the hearing is being held in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, which is getting delayed.
The court imposed a fine of Rs 500 on the AIM and fixed August 22 as the date of hearing.
On the directions of the Supreme Court, District Judge Ajay Krishna Vishwesh had commenced the hearing of the 693/2021 case from May 20. As directed by the Supreme Court, the District Judge had started hearing arguments on the sustainability of the case.
AIM’s advocates argued for four days between May 24 and July 12. After this, the advocates of the women litigants, who were seeking the right to worship Shringar Gauri and other deities in the Gyanvapi complex, responded by July 21.
