Assembly elections are to be held in Uttar Pradesh early next year and at present the BJP is in the pole position. The party had crossed the 300-mark in the 2017 elections in the 403-seat house with nearly 40% of the votes, but 20 seats with a difference of less than 5,000 votes last time could be a challenge this time too.
Aware of the work ahead, the BJP has come up with a devised strategy for the seats that saw a tight gap last time and those that the party lost.
“Every election has its issues and every time the situation is different. In 2017, we told people about the shortcomings and failures of the Samajwadi Party government. Our party had also issued a resolution letter. Today we have fulfilled the promises made in that resolution letter. The organization of BJP has also become stronger as compared to 2017.
“We had 1.87 crore BJP members before the 2017 election, but today we have 2.5 crore members. Now we are trying to recruit 1.5 crore new members. We are also working on a special strategy for those seats where margins were less and those we lost and hence we are confident that we will win the upcoming elections with a thumping majority.
The BJP had won 312 seats in 2017. The difference in 20 of these seats was narrow, while the Samajwadi Party was in second place despite the Modi wave. These seats may well decide whether the BJP is able to cross the 300 mark for the second time in a row. Here’s a look at some of these important seats and the difference in votes in 2017:
Shravasti – 445 votes
Patti – 1,473 votes
Bhadohi – 1,102 votes
Farenda – 2,354 votes
Tanda – 1,725 votes
Bharthana – 1,968 votes
Amla – 3,546 votes
Maholi – 3,717 votes
Bidhuna – 3,910 votes
Dhaurahra – 3,353 votes
Patiali – 3,771 votes
Gorakhpur Rural – 4410 votes
Nakur – 4,057
Another worrying factor for the ruling party is that in some seats, the total votes polled by the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), which have participated in the 2022 elections, are either higher than the BJP’s figure or narrowing the gap further. We do. . These seats include Sivalkhas, Kithor, Baraut and Baldev.
