Lucknow/New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today cracked down on rivals as he laid the foundation stone for the Rs 36,230-crore Ganga Expressway project in Uttar Pradesh, months ahead of the crucial state elections.

“Today…when bulldozers in front of mafia, bulldozers destroy illegal constructions but pain sustains them. That’s why people are saying-‘UP + Yogi. very useful‘ (UP + Yogi is very useful),” the Prime Minister said at the government event.

His allegation comes on a day when former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s aides were raided in different parts of the state, including the Yadav stronghold Mainpuri. Soon after the tax searches began, Mr Yadav accused the BJP of misusing the central investigative agencies.

,From now on Income Tax Department has come, Enforcement Directorate will come, CBI will come (Now, now the tax department has come… Enforcement Directorate will come, CBI will come) but the cycle (Samajwadi Party’s symbol) will not stop,” He said that which seemed like a dare for the government,

Hours later, in his speech, the Prime Minister hit back at the former Chief Ministers.

“Earlier how people’s money was used, and in what way… you saw it… but today UP money is being used for development works. Earlier these projects were started on paper so that They own their vault. Today, these projects are ensuring that your money is saved and is in your pocket,” PM Modi said.

Amid attacks by opposition leaders over big launch events in UP ahead of state polls, PM Modi said: “There are some political parties which have problem with the country’s heritage and progress.. problem with heritage as they have vote bank Headache. The problem with progress is that these people cannot always make the poor dependent on themselves. These people have a problem with Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.”

“These people question the army’s action, the Make-in-India plan, the handling of the pandemic… It’s a great country, governments come and go… We should be happy with the progress of the country. But alas. These people don’t think so.”

The six-lane Ganga Expressway project launched today is likely to be expanded to eight lanes, and will be built at a cost of over Rs 36,230 crore.

“The day is not far when UP will be recognized as the most modern state with next generation infrastructure. Network of expressways, new airports are being built, new rail routes are being built in UP which will help the people of UP. Bringing many blessings together,” PM Modi said today.

This afternoon, when PM Modi launched the big project, Rahul Gandhi led an anti-inflation rally in his former Lok Sabha constituency Amethi, where he criticized the government over various policy decisions.
