UPSC declares Civil Services Examination 2024 results. Shakti Dubey from Prayagraj secures 1st rank

New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Tuesday announced the results of the Civil Services Examination 2024, declaring Shakti Dubey from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj as the topper of the prestigious all-India exam.

A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various Group A and B posts including in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Revenue Service (IRS).

Apart from Shakti Dubey, there are four other female candidates among the top 10Harshita Goyal (rank 2), Shah Margi Chirag (4), Komal Punia (6), Aayushi Bansal (7).

Dubey completed her schooling and graduation from Prayagraj. She did her Bachelors from the University of Allahabad and later pursued her post-graduation in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). She had been preparing for UPSC since 2018.

The Mains (written) exams were held in September 2024 followed by interviews between January and April 2025 for the personality test.

Around 13.4 lakh candidates had applied for the CSE 2024 across the country. A total of 14,627 cleared the preliminary exam and qualified for the Mains.

A total of 2,845 aspiring candidates cleared the Mains and reached the interview stage. The UPSC conducted the interviews over four months between January and April, and recommended 1,009 candidates for appointment across various services, including IAS, IPS, IFS, and other Group A and B posts.

Among the candidates recommended, 180 have been selected for the IAS, 147 for the IPS and 55 for the IFS.

The UPSC has also announced a reserve list of 230 candidates. Fifty posts are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) across different categories.

Known for its rigorous three-stage selection process—Prelims, Mains, and Interview—the UPSC Civil Services Examination is considered one of the toughest in the world. Candidates often spend years preparing for a chance to join India’s elite civil services.

Successful candidates this year come from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds, reflecting the growing diversity within the country’s administrative machinery.
