Power, Prohibition and Excise Minister V. Senthil Balaji said here on Saturday that 53 new urban health center buildings would be constructed in the city and 10 more would be upgraded.
The minister initiated work for projects worth Rs 113.27 crore, which include construction of new roads, widening of existing ones, construction of new buildings for urban health centers and up-gradation of some of the existing buildings of the centres.
The minister said that each new building for the urban health center would be constructed at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. When Chief Minister MK Stalin recently visited Coimbatore, he said that the roads would be upgraded for Rs 200 crore. Accordingly ₹198 crore was allocated and work had started. Apart from these, 32 km of roads will be developed or widened and urban health center buildings will be taken up for ₹113.27 crore.
Land acquisition works for expansion of Coimbatore International Airport were in progress at ₹1,132 crore. Of this, work was completed for Rs 800 crore and the rest of the land would be acquired in the next few months. The works that could have been done in 10 years to make Coimbatore the most developed district had begun and were progressing here. Further, out of 1,17,680 petitions received from public, 75,790 had received benefits and measures have been taken to address the requirements mentioned in the remaining applications.
The minister said that all roads, drains and other works in each ward of the city have been surveyed and efforts are on to complete these works.
