In a new travel advisory issued on Friday, the US State Department raised the India travel advisory to Level 2 on a scale of 1 to 4, with Level 4 being the highest advisory level because of the greater potential for life-threatening risks.
The State Department, in a separate advisory a day earlier, placed Pakistan at Level 3 and asked its citizens to reconsider travel to their provinces troubled by terrorism and sectarian violence.
“The exercise in India has increased vigilance due to crime and terrorism,” the State Department said.
“Do not travel: Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (except Eastern Ladakh region and its capital Leh) due to terrorism and civil unrest. within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border due to the possibility of armed conflict,” it said.
Rape, terrorism warning
According to the travel advisory, “Indian officials report that rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crimes, such as sexual assault, have occurred at tourist destinations and other places.”
The advisory states that “terrorists may strike with little or no warning, targeting tourist destinations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls and government facilities.”
The travel advisory said, “The US government has limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens in rural areas of eastern Maharashtra and northern Telangana through western West Bengal because US government employees have special authorization to travel to these areas.” Gotta get it.”
