A six-year-old girl seeks approval to have a unicorn in her backyard. The authorities’ first-ever license and heart-warming response to the girl’s request has won hearts online.

Unicorns are mythical creatures described as a horse with large, pointed, spiral horns rising from its forehead. Even though it lives in the realm of fantasy, a little girl’s curiosity and fantasy of discovering and cherishing the real has found encouragement from the relevant authorities in the US. A six-year-old girl asked the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control to give her official approval to keep a unicorn in her backyard. The authorities’ acceptance and response to the girl’s request has won hearts online.

The girl, identified as Madeline, wrote to the department seeking approval to own the mythical creature. The organization took to Facebook to share details of the incident, including a handwritten letter by Madeline. It read, “Dear LA County, If I could have a unicorn in my backyard, I would like your approval. Please send me a letter in response”. Director Marcia Maida appreciated the child’s commitment to “responsible pet ownership” and therefore, granted Madeline the first license of its kind only if she owned a unicorn.

The department further spelled out the conditions under which the unicorn should be taken care of. It commented that the unicorn should be given “regular access to sunlight, moonbeams and rainbows”. The caretaker should feed the unicorn a watermelon once a week and its horn should be tied with a soft cloth every month. Non toxic and biodegradable.

The officials also sent a “pre-approved license” along with a stuffed unicorn doll because finding a real one is rare. The heart-shaped metal was also given to Madeline, which had “permanent unicorn license” on it.

Thus, the controlling officers shared the news with online users who flocked to the comments section to express their love for Madeline and applaud the officers. “This just made my morning! You taking the time to listen to a little girl’s request is beyond priceless. You have created a core memory for her! Bravo to all of you!” replied one user while another wrote What a touching act of kindness for this little girl that has now resonated around the world! Appreciation.”
