Casper Roode vowed to continue his pursuit of his maiden Grand Slam title and world No. 1 ranking after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the US Open on Sunday.

Both men brought their A-game to Arthur Ashe Stadium, which had a lot of riding on the match. The winner will not only win the coveted trophy but will also be named as the new world No. 1 in the ATP rankings.

Alcaraz, however, proved to be a step ahead of his rival earlier in the day and took home the first set. While the Norwegian made a comeback in the second set, the third once again went in favor of the Spaniard, although both players broke each other’s serve. Alkaraz managed to save two set points and went on to win his first tie-breaker of the tournament.

The Spaniard was then able to win the fourth set and take the title and the No. 1 spot with the score. 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3,

Speaking at the trophy presentation, as quoted by ATP, Roode said it was a special Sunday evening. The 23-year-old said he was disappointed to lose the No. 1 spot, but added that he was happy to finish second too. Roode concluded by saying that he would continue to chase his first Grand Slam title and No. 1 ranking.

“Things are going great. Today was a special evening,” Rudd said during the trophy ceremony. “Carlos and I both knew who we were playing for and what was at stake. We will be number 2 and number 1 in the world tomorrow. I think it is suitable. Of course, I’m disappointed that I’m not No. 1, but No. 2 isn’t bad either. I am happy with that number and I will continue to chase for my first Grand Slam title and No. 1 ranking,” said Roode.
