The central government had earlier announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively.
Along with the reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday also reduced VAT on the two fuels, making them cheaper by Rs 12 per liter in the state. “The state government has decided to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7 and Rs 2 respectively. Now with the reduction in excise duty by the Center and reduction in VAT by the state government, their prices in the state will come down by Rs 12 per liter,” said Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary (information).
Earlier in the day, the central government had announced reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively, bringing their retail rates down from record highs. The announcement comes on the eve of Diwali which will help bring down the skyrocketing fuel prices and provide some relief to the common man battling inflation.
An official statement had earlier said, “The Government of India has taken an important decision to reduce fuel central excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively from tomorrow. Thus the prices of petrol and diesel will come down.” ” UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the decision of the central government through a tweet and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this.
“Respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel in public interest has given extra gaiety to Diwali. This decision is going to give relief to every section of the society. Heartfelt thanks to respected Prime Minister. All the people of the state ,” Yogi said in a tweet.
