Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said his party will contest elections in Manipur, Goa and Uttar Pradesh.
he also said Uttar PradeshThe party will tie up with Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and some other smaller parties. Pawar said the party was in talks with the Congress and the Trinamool Congress in Goa and the NCP was not against taking the Shiv Sena along with them. The seat sharing will be announced soon.
On Tuesday, a prominent UP leader Siraj Mehndi entered the party in the presence of Pawar at the NCP headquarters in Mumbai. Pawar addressed the press on that occasion.
“In ManipurWe have four sitting MLAs. Congress and NCP will now contest five seats together. In GoaDiscussions are going on between Congress, TMC and NCP. A final decision on this will be taken in the next two days. NCP, SP and smaller parties have formed an alliance in UP.
Asked about Congress’s decision to go it alone, he said it was every party’s decision and he would not like to comment on it. He also clarified that Congress cannot be left out if a strong alternative is to be given.
He targeted UP CM Yogi Adityanath And said that the ruling party’s agenda is to divide the elections on communal lines.
“There will be ‘change’. People want change in UP. NCP leaders will go there and take part in that Jalsa.
Referring to Yogi’s statement regarding support of 80% of the population, he said, “Such statements do not suit a CM. Who are 20% of the people? The idea of protecting the interests of these sections has to be supported if the secular mindset is to be strengthened in the country. The Chief Minister of a state is the representative of the entire state. Not 80% of the people.”
When asked about people leaving BJP, he predicted that now every day new faces will leave BJP.
He said all the opposition parties have accepted that the BJP wants to polarize the elections. Communal polarization is the policy of BJP. They want to polarize the elections and take them on communal lines. The people of UP will not allow this to happen.
expressing deep concern over Breach in PM’s security“The PM is an institution. Its security is the responsibility of the Center and the state,” he said.
Clarifying his stand on UPA and its leadership, he said, “With regard to UPA, I want to say that Congress has to be taken together. The alternative should be with Congress. There is no alternative to Congress.”
