Uttar Pradesh Elections | Priyanka says she is leading UP election campaign

Launch of separate youth manifesto with the promise of providing 20 lakh jobs to the youth of the state

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday projected herself as the party’s face in the upcoming UP elections, but backed down from revealing her plans regarding contesting the polls. She was launching a separate youth manifesto with the promise of providing 20 lakh jobs to the youth of the state.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who jointly launched the manifesto at the party headquarters, said it presented a new vision not only for UP but for the entire country, as the vision presented by the BJP since 2014 changed India’s vision. “The demographic dividend had turned into a demographic disaster”.

He said, ‘Do you see any other face of the Congress party. You are seeing my face everywhere,” replied Ms Vadra, who will be the party’s chief ministerial candidate.

However, she refrained from giving a direct answer on whether she would contest the election and said that no decision has been taken on it yet.

Later, in an interview to NDTV, he clarified that he had not projected himself as the ‘chief ministerial face’ of the party and made a verbal remark.

To a question on whether the Congress would support a non-BJP government, Ms Vadra told reporters in the manifesto that the party would consider it if such a need arose, but insisted on implementing its agenda for the women and youth of the state. Will give

as the title ‘Bharati Vidhan’ (recruitment document), Congress promised to create 20 lakh jobs, including eight lakh for women.

Ms Vadra said that there are existing 12 lakh vacancies in the government and the remaining eight lakh jobs can be created by focusing on skill-based entrepreneurship.

“People have to be made aware that politics based on caste and communalism will not fill your stomach,” he said. He said that Congress wants to focus on development-oriented politics instead of negative campaign.

Rahul’s claim

Speaking at the event, Mr Gandhi said that the employment document has not only made lofty claims, but has shown how jobs can be created and a new perspective can be offered. He claimed that during the last five years of BJP rule, 880 youths lost their jobs everyday in UP and more than 16 lakh youths became unemployed.

“We don’t spread hatred, we work to unite people and we want to build a new UP inspired by the strength and faith of youth… Every state is important but no other state weighs UP So we are proposing a new way of doing things, a new imagination for it,” he said.

In a subsequent tweet, Mr Gandhi said that “things done with responsibility and with honesty, from the heart, yield good results”.
