Uttar Pradesh Elections: Rita Bahuguna Joshi offers to step down as MP if her son is given BJP ticket from Lucknow Cantt. Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: BJP MP from Allahabad, Rita Bahuguna Joshi He has said that he is ready to step down as MP if the party fields his 44-year-old son Mayank from Lucknow Cantt seat.
Speaking to TOI over phone from Delhi, Joshi said, “If there is a constraint that the party (BJP) will give ticket to only one person per family, then I am ready to resign from my current Lok Sabha seat if Mayank gets the ticket. Am. , Let the youth come in and I will keep working for the party.
The former Congress leader, who joined the BJP in 2016, also said that she has sent this proposal to the party’s national president JP Nadda.
“I will always work for BJP anyway. The party may choose to accept or reject my offer. I had already announced that I would not contest the elections. After all, now let the youth come in.” Joshi added.
He further said, “Mayank is doing a lot of ground work in the Vidhan Sabha and is quite popular among all sections of the society, especially among the youth, this seat is also very dear to me, finally I won the seat. In 2012, three from Congress to BJP. After defeating Bar MLA Suresh Chandra Tiwari.Then in 2017, when I joined BJP, I won the seat by defeating Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav.
“My son has an emotional connect with this seat and has worked hard for the party. I think he deserves the ticket and if the party feels that only one member of the family can be given ticket, then I am ready to step down”, he said.
Rita Bahuguna served as the Mayor of Allahabad from 1995-2000. She is the former vice-president of the National Council for Women.
She has been unsuccessful in the Lok Sabha elections twice. She was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly from Lucknow Cantonment in the 2012 state elections.
She contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow but lost.
She joined BJP on 20 October 2016 in the presence of former BJP President Amit Shah after spending 24 years in Congress and was re-elected from Lucknow Cantt.
He was later fielded by the party for the Lok Sabha elections from Allahabad in 2019, due to which he had to vacate the seat.
