Kanpur: Three more people, all Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel, tested positive for Zika virus In Kanpur, the tally increased to four on Saturday.
District Magistrate Kanpur Nagar said, “With three news cases, the number has now gone up to four in the city. A total of 260 samples of IAF personnel have been sent to KGMU laboratory Lucknow in the last few days.” Vishakh ji Told TOI.
The DM said, “In the report received on Saturday, three more Indian Air Force personnel have been confirmed to be infected with Zika virus.”
The first case of the virus was also confirmed in an Indian Air Force personnel on 23 October. “However, 22 people, including family members, relatives and close contacts of the first case, tested negative for the virus,” he said.
A high alert has been sounded in the vicinity of civilian areas including Pardiwanpurwa and Pokharpur areas, as well as in the periphery of the Indian Air Force hangar in the Maintenance Command, regarding the mosquito-borne virus.

Earlier on Thursday, the Health Department had taken blood and urine samples of 175 Indian Air Force personnel and 76 civilians.
“All the samples were sent to the KGMU Lucknow laboratory to test for Zika virus, malaria and dengue,” said Dr GK Mishra, Additional Director, Medical Health and Family Welfare, Kanpur Circle.
A Pune laboratory on Saturday detected the first patient of Zika virus in the state after a 57-year-old warrant officer of the Air Force Station confirmed the infection on October 23.
