Kanpur: Another case has come to light in the city Zika virus On Monday, taking the number of cases to 11.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kanpur Nagar, Dr. Nepal Singh, that Pathology samples 42 year old woman shiv katra, sent to KGMU Lab more in Lucknow National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune tested positive for Zika virus on Monday.
So far, 11 people, including three IAF personnel from Chakeri area, have tested positive for Zika infection.
“The surveillance team took the sample of the woman, who is asymptomatic, and sent it for testing. He has been kept under observation. Samples of his family members, relatives and people who came in contact will be taken on Tuesday. Anti-larva spray, cleaning and fogging will also be done by surveillance teams in the area,” the CMO said.
District Magistrate Visakh G Iyer said in a statement that there is no need to panic. “Zika virus is not spread by contact or aerosol; Instead it is spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which also cause dengue and chikungunya. This can be easily stopped with strict monitoring and awareness,” he said. The DM also visited Shyam Nagar area from where Zika virus cases have been reported. He also inspected the work being done by the municipal team and the survey work.
Meanwhile, house-to-house surveys were conducted by 65 surveillance teams of health, civilian, para-medical personnel and local administration staff in the affected areas, including the IAF station, on Monday. Surveillance teams collected samples from 12 localities spread over a radius of 3 km in Chakeri area. The teams also screened people with fever-like symptoms and the presence of Aedes aegypti larvae in the water containers.
On Monday, surveillance teams visited Chakeri’s Om Purva, Badli Purva, Bhavani Nagar, Shyam Nagar E Block, Girja Nagar, Koyla Nagar, Tiwaripur Bagia, Tulsi Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Pokharpurwa, Qazi Kheda and Kakori Pocket and took 456 samples. . . Samples have been sent to Lucknow’s KGMU and NIV Pune for testing. Till date, 1,745 samples have been collected,” the CMO said.
Source reduction work on Zika was carried out in 8,937 homes on Monday, the CMO said, adding, “So far, we have covered 15,153 homes.”
“Our surveillance teams also made people aware of the danger of stagnant water and asked them to empty the pots, containers and tanks filled with water,” the CMO said. “We are closely monitoring pregnant women in the localities,” he said.
